Florence's spiritual and political hubs are 2 magnificent squares few meters from Hotel Cosimo de' Medici.

Duomo - S. Maria del Fiore
Duomo - S. Maria del Fiore
Piazza del Duomo (600m) – this square houses the Cathedral (Duomo) of Santa Maria del Fiore. The church was designed by Arnolfo da Cambio in 1296 and consecrated by Pope Eugene IV on March 25, 1436 (the first day of the year according to the Florentine calendar) . Brunelleschi's extraordinary genius gave birth to the massive Cupola crowning the skyline of Florence.

The gothic bell tower created by Giotto allows, after a staircase of 414 steps, to have a close look the dome by Brunelleschi in addition to a wonderful panorama of the city.

The other jewel of this unique square is the Baptistery in Romanesque style that is located opposite the Cathedral and is one of the oldest buildings of Florence. The building is characterized by succession of finely carved bronze doors; the doors of Lorenzo Ghiberti have been described by Michelangelo as the "gates of Paradise".

Piazza Signoria - Palazzo Vecchio
Piazza Signoria - Palazzo Vecchio
Ponte Vecchio
Ponte Vecchio
Piazza della Signoria (900m) - the point of origin of the Florentine Republic is an "en plain air" museum hosting Palazzo Vecchio, a mighty fortress that is the gothic town hall of Florence, a copy of the David of Michelangelo, the statue of Neptune and to the Loggia dei Lanzi, with the famous bronze Perseus.

Ponte Vecchio (1200m) - And...last but not least...there's an old legend in Florence: if you want to make your love eternal, you have to chain a padlock to Ponte Vecchio, and then throw the key in the Arno. The Old Bridge of Roman origin that crosses the Arno river is the most suggestive place in Florence and there are no words to describe the wonder...we hope you feel and see what every Florentine knows well at least once in a lifetime...
